Just place an L4 x 4 x 5/16 in the joint above the opening and bear 8" on each side. <br />However, the contractor pointed out a location where 2 - 2 x 10's span 16'+ and support 6'-6" of equipment load. These 2 x 10's will support a design load of <br />only 17psf for the supported floor area.
