(All other staff members will be identified <br /> 18 appropriately below) <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Price called the Board of County Commissioners meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. <br /> 21 <br /> 22 Due to current public health concerns, the Board of Commissioners is conducting a <br /> 23 Virtual Work Session on February 8, 2022 utilizing Zoom. Members of the Board of <br /> 24 Commissioners will be participating in the meeting remotely. As in prior meetings, members of <br /> 25 the public will be able to view and listen to the meeting via live streaming video at <br /> 26 orangecountync.gov/967/Meeting-Videos and on Orange County Gov-TV on channels 1301 or <br /> 27 97.6 (Spectrum Cable). <br /> 28 <br /> 29 A roll call of the County Commissioners was called; all members were present. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 Chair Price said there is a chance that meetings will still be virtual in March 2022, due to <br /> 32 continued health concerns with the pandemic. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 1. Realignment of Regional Workforce Development Boards <br /> 35 The Board received information about the possible realignment of regional workforce <br /> 36 development boards and the potential impact on Orange County. <br /> 37 <br /> 38 BACKGROUND: Orange County is currently one of five counties in the Regional Partnership <br /> 39 Workforce Development Board. The other counties are Alamance, Randolph, Montgomery and <br /> 40 Moore. There are currently three Board members appointed by the Board of Commissioners: <br /> 41 Katie Loovis (Chapel Hill Chamber of Commerce), Rhonda Sue Holaday (Summit Design and <br /> 42 Engineering) and Nancy Coston. <br /> 43 <br /> 44 The purpose of the Workforce Development Board is to help job seekers with employment, <br /> 45 education, training and support to succeed in the job market while supplying skilled workers for <br /> 46 employers. The Board also provides oversight for the regional allocation of Workforce <br /> 47 Innovation and Opportunity Act funds. These funds provide services to all populations and have <br /> 48 a particular focus on dislocated workers, youth and other job seekers with specific barriers. <br /> 49 <br /> 50 In 2013, the Orange County Department of Social Services (DSS) won the competitive bid to <br /> 51 operate the youth program in Orange County.
