OCS Middle School #3 <br />School Capital Project <br />Ordinance <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To approve budget ordinance amendments for fiscal year 2003-04, <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Health Department <br />1, At their December 1, 2003 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners approved the <br />establishment of two new positions within the Health Department related to public health <br />preparedness and emergency response -one Public Health Preparedness Coordinator and <br />one Volunteer Coordinator -effective December 1, 2003, The Public Health Preparedness <br />Coordinator position will be funded through a recurring federal allocation to the State in the <br />amount of $69,199 far Orange County. The Volunteer Coordinator position will be funded <br />through athree-year federal grant in the amount of $50,000 far each year. The Volunteer <br />Coordinator position funding is for athree-year period, after which time the Board of Health <br />and the Board of Commissioners will evaluate the grant and decide whether the effort merits <br />continuation, There is no County match for the cost of these positions. This budget <br />amendment allows for the receipt of the additional allocation of funds totaling $69,199 from <br />the N.C, Division of Public Health for the Public Health Preparedness Coordinator position, <br />and the receipt of the $50,000 grant award far FY 2003-04 from the U. S. Department of <br />Health and Human Services Public Health Services for the Volunteer Coordinator position. <br />(See Attachment 1, column #1) <br />Planning Department <br />2, At their December 1, 2003 meeting, the Board of County Commissioners approved the <br />establishment of a new Plans Examiner position and a new Code Compliance Officer <br />position effective January 1, 2004, as well as two additional two-year, time-limited Code <br />
