<br />www.orangecountync.gov <br />Protecting and preserving – People, Resources, Quality of Life <br />Orange County, North Carolina – You Count! <br />(919) 245-2130 FAX (919) 644-0246 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Orange County Board of Commissioners <br />Post Office Box 8181 <br />200 South Cameron Street <br />Hillsborough, North Carolina 27278 <br /> <br /> <br />DECLARATION <br />OF AN ORANGE COUNTY <br />STATE OF EMERGENCY <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the National Weather Service – Raleigh has issued a Winter Storm Warning for <br />Orange County and is forecasting a significant storm that could result in treacherous travel <br />conditions and widespread power outages from several inches of snow and/or ice; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, as a result of the above-described disaster, I have determined that there is an <br />imminent threat of, or existing conditions have caused or could cause, widespread or severe <br />damage, injury, or loss of life or property, and public safety authorities may be unable to <br />maintain public order or afford adequate protection for lives or property; and <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, pursuant to the authority vested in me as the Chair of the Board of <br />Commissioners of Orange County under Article 1A of Chapter 166A of the North Carolina <br />General Statues and Part I, Chapter 14, Article II, Sec. 14-31, of the Orange County Code of <br />Ordinances: <br /> <br />Section 1. A State of Emergency is hereby declared within the jurisdiction of Orange <br />County, North Carolina. <br /> <br />Section 2. By request of the mayors or their appointed representatives, this declaration <br />includes the incorporated jurisdictions of Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough. <br /> <br />Section 3. I hereby order all County law enforcement officers, employees, and all other <br />emergency response personnel subject to our control to cooperate in the <br />enforcement and implementation of the provisions of this Declaration, all <br />applicable local ordinances, state and federal laws, and the Orange County <br />Emergency Operations Plan. <br /> <br />Section 4. I hereby authorize the Orange County Manager to take all necessary actions in <br />order to maintain public order or afford adequate protection for lives, safety, or <br />property as needed. <br /> <br />Section 5. I hereby order this declaration: (a) to be distributed to the news media and other <br />organizations calculated to bring its contents to the attention of the general <br />public; (b) to be filed with the Clerk to the Orange County Board of <br /> <br />Renee Price, Chair <br />Jamezetta Bedford, Vice-Chair <br />Amy Fowler <br />Sally Greene <br />Jean Hamilton <br />Earl McKee <br />Anna Richards
