and the Chapel Bill Weekly, newspapers published in Orange County, North Carolina
<br />and having general circulation in the area referred to in this resolution, at least
<br />thirty days before the date hereinbefore fixed for said election and thereafter twice
<br />before the election at intervals of at least one week between publications, such
<br />Notice to be substantially in the following form:
<br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION
<br />AND SUPPLEMENTAL REGISTRATION
<br />IN THE
<br />CHAPEL HILL SCHOOL DISTRICT,
<br />ORANGE COUNTY, X. C.
<br />A special election will be held on Saturday, May 26, 1962, between the hours of
<br />6:30 o'clock a. m. and 6:30 o'clock p, m., Eastern Standard Time, in the area herein-
<br />after described, which area constitutes the Chapel Hill School District of Orange
<br />County, for the purpose of submitting to the qualified voters residing in said area '
<br />the following question:
<br />"Shall there be levied and collected with the area constituting
<br />the Chapel Hill School District an additional special tax, over
<br />and above the present 20?, per hundred dollar property valuation
<br />special tax now in effect, increasing said 20? per hundred dollar
<br />valuation special tax to not exceeding 35X per hundred dollar
<br />property valuation within said area, to further supplement the
<br />current expense funds from State and County allotments and thereby
<br />operate schools of the Chapel Hill Administrative Unit within the
<br />Chapel Hill School District of a higher standard by'supplementing
<br />any item of expenditure in the school budget?"
<br />If said tax is levied it will be levied upon all taxable property situated witbir,
<br />the Chapel Hill School District, as described herein, for the purposes above set
<br />forth. Each ballot provided for the use of voters in voting on the above question in
<br />said special election shall have the above question printed thereon and shall bear
<br />the words "FOR Local Special Tax" and "AGAINST Local Special Tax", and shall contain
<br />squares opposite the affirmative and negative forms, in one of which squares the
<br />voter may make a cross (X) mark.
<br />The area which comprises the Chapel Hill School District of Orange County is the
<br />area contained with the following boundaries:
<br />BEGINNING at a point in the intersection of the center line of the county
<br />road that leads from Eubanks westwardly to old N. C. Highway #86 and
<br />?• the center line of State University Railway at Eubanks, running thence
<br />in a North Easterly direction to a point where Louis Freeland's drive
<br />enters N. C. Highway #86, thence in an Easterly direction to the inter-
<br />section of Erwin Road and New Hope Creek near the Durham County line
<br />and thence in an Easterly direction to the Durham County line, thence
<br />in a Southerly direction along the Durham County line to its inter-
<br />section with the Chatham County line; thence in a Westerly direction
<br />along the Chatham County line to the intersection of said county line
<br />with the township line between Bingham and Chapel Hill Townships;
<br />thence due north along said township line crossing the Jones Ferry
<br />Road 1.25 miles Northeasterly from its intersection with the Orange
<br />and Chatham County line; crossing Antioch Road at its intersection
<br />with N. C: Secondary Road #5163, crossing N. C, Highway #54 just
<br />West of Bates Store, crossing N. C. Secondary Road #56 at Bethel
<br />Church, a total distance of 39,177 feet to the intersection of N. C.
<br />Secondary Road #512 with the paved road that leads from Dodson's Cross-
<br />roads Southeasterly to Calvander (N. C. Secondary Road #511); thence
<br />along and with the center of said N. C. Secondary Road #512 in a North-
<br />easterly direction 1,584 feet to a point in the center of said road;
<br />thence South 72 deg. 30-min. East 4,382 feet to a point in the center
<br />of the East side of loop road, said point being 3,696 feet North of
<br />the first intersection North of Neville's Store; thence South 80 deg.
<br />45 min., East 4,752 feet to a point in the center of the old N. C.
<br />Highway #86, said point being 2,640 feet North of the first intersection
<br />North of Calvander; thence South 74 deg. 00 min. East 8,190 feet to
<br />the beginning point.
<br />In said election the regular registration books for elections in the following
<br />precincts included within the boundaries of the Chapel Hill School District will be
<br />used: Carrboro: North Carrboro and South Carrboro; Chapel Hill: Country Club, Dogwood
<br />Acres, East Franklin, Estes Hills, Glenwood, King's Mill, Northside, and Westwood.
<br />In Patterson and Cole's Store Precincts special registration books will be used
<br />and a new registration for qualified voters in said precincts who reside in Chapel
<br />Hill School District is ordered and registration books will be open for the registra-
<br />tion of such voters of these precincts not theretofore registered from 9:00 o'clock
<br />a. m. until Sunset on each day beginning Saturday, April 28, 1962, and closing
<br />Saturday, May 12, 1962. On each Saturday during said period said books shall remain
<br />open at the said Patterson and Cole's Store polling places, Saturday, May 19, 1962,
<br />shall be Challenge Day,
