<br />High Rock Road Waste & Recycling Center Improvements 33 30 00 - 18 <br />Orange County Solid Waste MARCH 2019 <br />DAA PN R00592-213N <br /> <br />3.9 MANHOLES <br /> <br />A. Manholes shall be constructed in accordance with details on the Plans <br />and shall be of true dimension and form. They shall be so constru cted as <br />to exclude all ground water. On all lines having an inside diameter greater <br />than 21", 5' diameter manholes shall be constructed. <br /> <br />B. Brick Manholes <br /> <br />1. Not allowed <br /> <br /> <br />C. Concrete Block Manholes <br /> <br />1. Not allowed <br /> <br />D. Precast Manholes <br /> <br />1. Precast manholes shall be constructed as follows: <br /> <br />Precast base sections shall be installed on stabilized foundation so <br />prepared to prevent settlement and misalignment. Pipe openings <br />shall be exactly aligned to that of the pipe entering and leaving the <br />manhole. <br /> <br />2. Rubber ring joints or semi-rigid composition joints shall be carefully <br />made in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and <br />generally in the following manner. Bells shall be wiped clean, be <br />free of all dirt or other matter, and liberally lubricated for receiving <br />the spigot ends. The gasket groove and gasket shall be well <br />cleaned and lubricated prior to placing. <br /> <br />3. Cement mortar joints shall be carefully made to the manufacturer's <br />requirements. Grout shall be as stiff as possible to be consistent <br />with good practice and all joints shall be well filled. <br /> <br />4. Sewer pipe shall be placed in the openings provided in the base <br />section and properly aligned and set to grade. They shall be firmly <br />held in place by the flexible coupling and the base opening shall be <br />filled with an expanding type grout well rammed into place. <br /> <br />5. Steps shall be properly placed at 15" intervals and to the other <br />requirements specified for brick manholes. <br /> <br />6. Cast iron frames and covers shall be properly set in a bed of mortar <br />and aligned to fit the top section of the manhole.
