7 <br /> Page 2 of 2 Whtiney Watson <br /> Orange County Planning Board (REQUIRES DISCLOSURE STATEMENT) <br /> Background, education and experience relevant to this board: <br /> My interest in planning began in college through majors in sociology and anthropology. I read <br /> quite a bit about organization of cities and communities including needed infrastructure. Since <br /> college I have lived in multiple cities and towns across the US and have experienced how those <br /> entities attempted to provide a better place for their citizens to live and work. I now serve as <br /> exhibition designer for the NC Museum of History. I am constantly reminded of how our past <br /> created our present and influences our future. Exhibitions must make similar choices as <br /> planners; allocating space, providing engaging experiences, allowing for exploration and <br /> education within the available resources of time and money. <br /> Reasons for wanting to serve on this board: <br /> Having grown up in Elon College and in the intervening years seen the development overtake <br /> that humble and friendly town, I wanted to bring some of that perspective and my own <br /> experience to the discussion of how my community will grow. Recent experiences in Cheeks <br /> Township with the new developments along Lebanon Rd in particular make me want to be part <br /> of the conversation with citizens, developers, and governmental leaders. <br /> Contribution to the diversity of viewpoints on this board: <br /> I know that my ethnicity and age put me into the majority of citizens in western Orange County.
