(All other staff members will be identified <br /> 18 appropriately below) <br /> 19 <br /> 20 Chair Price called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. She stated that the Board is meeting <br /> 21 virtually due to the pandemic, and also because of the winter storm that came through the <br /> 22 region. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 A roll call was called; all members were present. <br /> 25 <br /> 26 Due to current public health concerns, the Board of Commissioners is conducting a Virtual <br /> 27 Business Meeting on Tuesday, January 18, 2022. Members of the Board of Commissioners <br /> 28 participated in the meeting remotely. As in prior meetings, members of the public were able to <br /> 29 view and listen to the meeting via live streaming video at <br /> 30 http://www.orangecountync.gov/967/Meeting-Videos and on Orange County Gov-TV on <br /> 31 channels 1301 or 97.6 (Spectrum Cable). <br /> 32 <br /> 33 In this new virtual process, there are two methods for public comment. <br /> 34 • Written submittals by email <br /> 35 • Speaking during the virtual meeting <br /> 36 <br /> 37 Detailed public comment instructions for each method are provided at the bottom of this <br /> 38 agenda. (Pre-registration is required.) <br /> 39 <br /> 40 1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> 41 NONE <br /> 42 <br /> 43 Chair Price dispensed with reading the public charge. <br /> 44 <br /> 45 2. Public Comments (Limited to One Hour) <br /> 46 a. Matters not on the Printed Agenda <br /> 47 Gretchen Schmid addressed the Board. She expressed concern with school board <br /> 48 comments made during the October meeting, specifically that the board represents the <br /> 49 majority of the community. She said that the role of the school board is not that of a <br /> 50 politician but is to provide students with a sound basic education, per the North Carolina <br />
