Several of the employees reported suspect
microbial growth on chairs in a closet and suspect growth was observed on several of the supply vents.
Real-time measurements of the indoor air quality(IAQ)were collected in the building, along with a
visual observation for potential air quality hazards. Moisture meter readings were collected in conjunction
with visual observations for moisture intrusion issues.Air samples for microbial laboratory analysis were
collected in multiple rooms and outdoors for reference. Also, several direct swab samples for laboratory
analysis were collected where microbial growth was observed.
The following items were observed during the investigation.
Main Observations:
• Visible microbial growth was observed on most of the contents throughout the building(refer to
images 3-5, 7, 8, 10 and 15 below).
• Visible microbial growth was observed on most of the walls, ceilings and supply registers
throughout the building(refer to images 2,4, 6, 9, and 11-18).
• Particle counts were elevated in most areas tested.
IAQ Data:
• Particle counts collected indoors were elevated in several areas, particularly in the 0.3, 0.5 and 1.0
(smaller)micron size ranges.
o Elevated airborne particles have been proven to reduce energy and productivity in
occupants, and can transport chemicals, odors and bacteria which may allow for odor
issues or adverse health effects for sensitive or immunocompromised individuals.
Maintaining low particulate levels will be useful for helping prevent future IAQ-related
issues.
o Airborne particulates indoors may be due to a combination of factors, which generally are
connected to overall occupant disturbances and general indoor dust levels. Other sources
that can cause elevated particle counts include carpeting,water-damaged building
materials, mold, improper exhausting of contaminants(such as in bathrooms and cooking
Environmental Solutions Group • 7 Maple Leaf Drive,Ste 104, Greensboro, NC 27410 • 336-373-1538 1
www.Go-ESG.com
