Goal IIIA-c3 recommendetl the implementation of an <br /> adult day care program to provide relief to caregivers and Goal I WA-b3 recommendetl the <br /> implementation of a heavy house cleaning service. The BOCC already have taken action on <br /> both of these initiatives. However, Goal IIIA-bi recommended providing assistance 0 <br /> familieslcaregivers by expanding in-home respite care services. The attached Orange County <br /> Respite Plan approved by the TJCOG -Area Agency on Aging meets the needs of caregivers <br /> who have different types of caregiving situations. The plan to be implemented by the Orange <br /> County Department on Aging covers four areas: (1)Volunteer In-home Respite—expanded use <br /> of volunteers by"A Helping Hand% a non-prolrt agency that has a volunteer-based home <br /> service; (2) Group Respite—a one-clay-a-week pilot group respite pmgrem at the NorthskJe <br /> Senior Center provided in cooperation with JOCCA, DSS. Junior League, Orange Public <br /> Transportation, and others; (3)Institutional Respite Relief Program—contract with local long <br /> term care institutions to provide temporary relief to caregivers for overnight and 24 hour care <br /> obligations; and (4) In-Home Respite requiring Personal Care—use of a professional such as a <br /> certified nursing assistant to provide relief for the caregiver who is assisting an elderly person <br /> with extreme personal care needs(incon5nence, etc.) beyond the training and appropriateness <br /> of a volunteer. <br /> The Master Aging Plan Steering CnmmMee was reconvened in November to help develop the <br /> respite plan, and the Orange County Advisory Board on Aging reviewed the plan in December <br /> and recommended Its approval. <br />
