z <br /> • 84 were existing businesses representing 729.25 hours of counseling <br /> • 7 were High OmwlhlHigh l meat[businesses representing 383.5 hours of counseling <br /> During 2000, the SBTDC also helped nine local businesses secure$1,251,000 in financing, <br /> enabling these businesses to create 7 part-time and 19 full-time lobs and to retain 15 part-time <br /> and 30 full-time jobs. <br /> It should also be noted that annual economic impact assessments undertaken at the state level <br /> (performed by an independent assessment firm)show that SBTDC clients significantly <br /> outperform the average for North Carolina small businesses in both sales and employment <br /> growth. <br /> With the implementation of the Orange County Small Business Loan Program, the County's <br /> partnership with SBTDC has become more important. SBTDC counselors have been working <br /> closely with staff of the Economic Development Commission to make potential borrowers aware <br /> of the program. In addition, SBTDC counselors have been assisting potential loan pool clients <br /> in preparing business plans. To date, all three applicants for the loan program have worked with <br /> SBTDC staff on business plan preparation. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: The annual budget for the Economic Development Commission <br /> approved for Fiscal Year 2001-2002 Includes$10,000 for professional contract services for this <br /> contract. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Bell approve the contract and <br /> authorise the Manager and the Clerk to the Board to execute the contract. <br />
