15 <br /> 1 <br /> 2 BACKGROUND: <br /> 3 The Chapel Hill Orange County Visitors Bureau is charged with developing and coordinating <br /> 4 visitor services in Orange County. It also implements marketing programs that will enhance the <br /> 5 economic activity and quality of life in the community. <br /> 6 <br /> 7 The Board of County Commissioners appoints all 17 members, with representation from specific <br /> 8 entities and fields. <br /> 9 <br /> 10 The following applicants are recommended for board consideration: <br /> 11 <br /> NAME POSITION TYPE OF EXPIRATION <br /> DESCRIPTION APPOINTMENT DATE <br /> TERM <br /> Pam Chapel Hill Town Second Full Term 12/31/2024 <br /> Hemminger Council <br /> Representative <br /> Tanya Moore UNC Chapel Hill Second Full Term 12/31/2024 <br /> Representative <br /> Lili Engelhardt At-Large First Full Term 12/31/2024 <br /> Heidi Werner OC Lodging First Full Term 12/31/2024 <br /> Dawson Association <br /> Representative <br /> 12 <br /> 13 If the individuals listed above are appointed, no vacancies remain. <br /> 14 <br /> 15 Tara May introduced the item. She said Ms. Dawson does not reside in Orange County, <br /> 16 but the board has appointed people in the past who do not reside in Orange County. She said <br /> 17 the board will also consider an amendment to the Visitor's Bureau Advisory Board policy to <br /> 18 allow people to be appointed who do not live in Orange County at a future business meeting. <br /> 19 Commissioner Bedford recommended that the board appoint the four listed <br /> 20 recommended applicants. <br /> 21 Commissioner McKee seconded. <br /> 22 The board agreed by consensus on the recommended applicants. <br /> 23 <br /> 24 4. Commission for the Environment—Appointments Discussion <br /> 25 The board discussed appointments to the Commission for the Environment. <br /> 26 <br /> 27 BACKGROUND: <br /> 28 The Commission for the Environment advises the Board of Commissioners on matters affecting <br /> 29 the environment with particular emphasis on protection. It educates public and local officials on <br /> 30 environmental issues and performs special studies and projects. It also recommends <br /> 31 environmental initiatives and study changes in environmental science and local and federal <br /> 32 regulations. <br /> 33 <br /> 34 The Board of County Commissioners appoints all 15 members, including 10 At-Large members <br /> 35 and 5 members with expertise in specific fields. <br /> 36 <br /> 37 The following members and applicants are recommended for board consideration: <br /> 38 <br />
