Through this program, the County <br />uses a variety of voluntary means to protect lands, 'mduding fee-simple acquisition, <br />acceptance of lantl tlona[ions, antl purchase or tlonetion of conservation easements. The <br />types of lentl protectetl inclutle parklantl, natural areas and wildlife habitat, riparian buffers, <br />prime farmland and historic antl cultural sdas. Since inception, Lantls Legacy has protectetl <br />59] acres of rosource lands in Omnge County. <br />In the fall of 2000, Dc Carl Shy wntactetl the Environment antl Resource Conservation <br />Director Oavitl Stanch about hid family's potential interest in protecting their lentl using a <br />conservation easement. Dc Shy explainetl [het he became Interestetl In the Idea of an <br />easement as a result of his experience as a member of the Shaping Omnge County's Future <br />Task Force. He antl his wife, Eva, have cared for the land for 20 years antl wcultl like to <br />know that it will wntinue to be protectetl in aaimilar fashion They offeredb"grant"an <br />easement tc Oronge County antl, in tloing so, relinquish certain rights to develop [he <br />property (both [heir antl future lantlowners'rights). After preliminary tliscueaicns of the <br />proposal with the BOCC, the Boam authorized pursuk of an easement agreement. <br />
