S
H. INSPECTION WORKLOAD
A. Inspection New Code Requirements:
The new code changes have increased our contact with the public both in
inspections field time and plans review. We are responding to questions about
code changes on projects currently under construction and those projects being
planned.
In addition, implementation of the new code has increased the number of
inspections required for each project, Our overall inspection requests have
increased by 10 %.
New code requirements have also increased the time required to complete an
inspection due to additional requirements, it is estimated that these additional
times would add 20% to the length of the inspection time.
B. Increased Commercial:
Commercial projects are more time consuming due to the complexity of the
codes involved with life safety of the general public and due to the size of
projects. It is not unusual for a single commercial inspection to take 2 —3 hours to
complete.
C. Increased Multi- family:
With the addition of 240 Multi- family units this year in the Hillsborough area, there
will be over 375 inspection requests involved to complete this one project.
MBullding Division Activity Report 2003 doc
