He said in urban areas it means sidewalks, bike lanes, a side path, <br /> traffic signals, turn lanes, etc. He said it is basically trying to bring the roads up to standard. He <br /> said it does not mean adding any more lanes, just improving what is there. <br /> Nishith Trivedi said many Orange County roads are one lane and undivided. He said <br /> many are not wide enough, and are unsafe. He said the wear and tear due to population <br /> growth has had an impact. He said the NCDOT is trying to further define modernization, but <br /> the goal is to improve the roads, especially in rural areas. <br /> Commissioner Bedford referred to the projects in attachment 4, and asked if there is a <br /> good representation of projects across the county. <br /> Nishith Trivedi said this list is just the highway list of projects <br /> Commissioner Bedford asked if this list is constrained by cost, or if it includes all of the <br /> projects. <br /> Nishith Trivedi said the list includes all projects with current costs. <br /> Chair Price asked if the BOCC is prepared to endorse the recommendations of the <br /> OUTBoard. <br /> Commissioner Greene said she is happy to endorse the OUTBoard's recommendations, <br /> and she is interested in seeing a plan that reflects a vision that gets away from highways and <br /> towards multimodal, climate sensitive transportation options. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Greene, seconded by Commissioner Fowler, to <br /> endorse the OUTBoard comments (Attachment 5), as modified by, to reflect BOCC comments <br /> for staff to convey to the DCHC MPO Board. <br /> Roll call ensued <br /> VOTE: Ayes, 6 (Commissioner McKee, Commissioner Hamilton, Commissioner Greene, <br /> Commissioner Fowler, Commissioner Bedford, Chair Price) <br /> Commissioner Richards did not vote because her meeting connection was lost. <br /> d.
