iq-
If grant monies are awarded for the MRC unit, a Volunteer Coordinator will be hired and
oriented to continue establishment of the volunteer corps. This individual's primary
responsibilities will include additional volunteer recruitment, credential verification,
development of volunteer role descriptions, training, activation and deployment, program
evaluation, volunteer database management, advocacy and promotion, fiscal management, and
collaboration with community partners. The Volunteer Coordinator will also work with
representatives from the Department of Emergency Management and the Public Health Regional
Surveillance Team to address manpower issues pertaining to levels of response for vazious
emergency events. Appropriate volunteers will then be recruited and trained to participate on the
necessary response teams. When the pool of volunteers is not activated for an emergency
response, the Coordinator will engage them regularly in new and ongoing public health
initiatives in the community or clinical setting. These initiatives could include flu clinics,
chronic disease management, language interpretation, nutrition/health education, community
screening/referral programs, well-water evaluations, and kennel inspections.
The program will be evaluated with regard to process, impact, and outcome. Counts and
percentages will be calculated based on the number of volunteers that join the MRC and the
number that attend irainings and disaster drills. The effectiveness of trainings will be measured
with pre- and post-tests and participant evaluations, Disaster drill and actual disaster response
will be evaluated based on the number of volunteers responding and demonstration of knowledge
of roles and responsibilities, The success of the program will also be evaluated through surveys
of OCHD staff and partnering agencies, and volunteers will be surveyed about their satisfaction
with orientation, training and deployment, All surveys will request that respondents provide
feedback on areas of concern and recommendations for improvement,
