5 <br /> 1 WHEREAS, throughout the year and especially during Hispanic Heritage Month, Americans <br /> 2 embrace, honor and celebrate the Hispanic community and its traditions and contributions; and <br /> 3 <br /> 4 WHEREAS, Orange County has a diverse population and Hispanic residents constitute the <br /> 5 largest ethnic group in Orange County; and <br /> 6 <br /> 7 WHEREAS, the Hispanic residents in Orange County are a diverse group with roots stretching <br /> 8 throughout North, Central, and South America, and many trace their heritage to the original <br /> 9 indigenous peoples of Latin America and Africa; and <br /> 10 <br /> 11 WHEREAS, many Hispanic people came to this country as immigrants and have fought for <br /> 12 state and national initiatives providing pathways to citizenship and protecting the right to vote — <br /> 13 i.e., Dreamers, Temporary Protected Status holders, farmworkers, and essential workers; and <br /> 14 <br /> 15 WHEREAS, throughout the history of the United States, members of the Hispanic community <br /> 16 have helped shape the social, political, and economic landscape of this Country and our <br /> 17 community; and <br /> 18 <br /> 19 WHEREAS, in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, members of the Hispanic community <br /> 20 helped keep our neighborhoods and communities vibrant and prosperous as our front-line <br /> 21 workers, teachers, business owners, scientists, soldiers, farmworkers, first responders, artists, <br /> 22 activists, colleagues, and friends; <br /> 23 <br /> 24 NOW, THEREFORE, the Orange County Board of Commissioners does hereby proclaim <br /> 25 September 15 through October 15, 2021, as Hispanic Heritage Month in Orange County, <br /> 26 affirming the 2021 theme of"Esperanza: A Celebration of Hispanic Heritage and Hope," and <br /> 27 calls upon all residents of Orange County to celebrate this month through activities and <br /> 28 programs that enlighten and inspire our understanding of the amazing heritage of our Hispanic <br /> 29 families, neighbors and friends. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 IN WITNESS WHEREOF, this the day of October 2021. <br /> 32 <br /> 33 <br /> 34 Renee A.
