He said in urban areas it means sidewalks, bike lanes, a side path, <br /> 13 traffic signals, turn lanes, etc. He said it is basically trying to bring the roads up to standard. He <br /> 14 said it does not mean adding any more lanes, just improving what is there. <br /> 15 Nishith Trivedi said many Orange County roads are one lane and undivided. He said <br /> 16 many are not wide enough, and are unsafe. He said the wear and tear due to population growth <br /> 17 has had an impact. He said the NCDOT is trying to further define modernization, but the goal is <br /> 18 to improve the roads, especially in rural areas. <br /> 19 Commissioner Bedford referred to the projects in attachment 4, and asked if there is a <br /> 20 good representation of projects across the county. <br /> 21 Nishith Trivedi said this list is just the highway list of projects <br /> 22 Commissioner Bedford asked if this list is constrained by cost, or if it includes all of the <br /> 23 projects. <br /> 24 Nishith Trivedi said the list includes all projects with current costs. <br /> 25 Chair Price asked if the BOCC is prepared to endorse the recommendations of the <br /> 26 OUTBoard. <br /> 27 Commissioner Greene said she is happy to endorse the OUTBoard's recommendations, <br /> 28 and she is interested in seeing a plan that reflects a vision that gets away from highways and <br /> 29 towards multimodal, climate sensitive transportation options. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 A motion was made by Commissioner Greene, seconded by Commissioner Fowler, to <br /> 32 endorse the OUTBoard comments (Attachment 5), as modified by, to reflect BOCC comments <br /> 33 for staff to convey to the DCHC MPO Board. <br /> 34 <br /> 35 Roll call ensued <br /> 36 <br /> 37 VOTE: Ayes, 6 (Commissioner McKee, Commissioner Hamilton, Commissioner Greene, <br /> 38 Commissioner Fowler, Commissioner Bedford, Chair Price) <br /> 39 <br /> 40 Commissioner Richards did not vote because her meeting connection was lost. <br /> 41 <br /> 42 d.
