East Chapel Hill Rotary Club is a 150-member service organization. Now more than 50 years old, the club is built on the principle of "service above self" as evidenced through our service to a variety of local, national, and international projects. Our foundation funds a portion of our project work including the Dental Mission, Teacher Supply Store, and Bike Night. The Foundation is conservatively managed and a safe, sustainable withdrawal is used to support our program work. By growing the assets of the foundation our club continues to work to assure that East Chapel Hill Rotary Club's future projects will be well- funded. Please briefly describe the proposed program and the target population to benefit from the program. (100 words or less): Habitat for Humanity of Orange County proposes to use $95,000 in Orange County Community Climate Action Grant funding to install rooftop solar panels on ten newly constructed affordable Habitat homes in Orange County. East Chapel Hill Rotary Club will partner with us to help raise funds and work with local solar installation companies to obtain equipment at cost. Nationally, Habitat for Humanity is the 6th largest homebuilder in the U.S. Of 1200+ local affiliates, only about 50 were using solar panels as of 2019 (only two affiliates in North Carolina).
