DocuSign Envelope ID:AD41 E8C7-FC41-4249-A9C6-849589FOC156
Mr. Steven Gandy, P.E. April 20, 2021
Chief Engineer
DraperAden Associates
sgandy@daa.com
Reference: Driven Mechanical Anchor Alternate
Orange County Solid Waste Management Facility
Orange County, North Carolina
UMA Proposal No.: 21-53720
Mr. Gandy,
UMA, Geotechnical Construction, Inc. (UMA) is pleased to present thefollowing proposalforthe above-
mentioned project. This proposal was prepared to approximate the costs associated with installing and
providing the general scope of services associated with the required tieback anchors.
Our opinions and statements regarding this proposal and our intended scope of services shall remain
confidential to you and shall not be made available to another party without the expressed written consent
of UMA. All concepts and procedures stated in this proposal shall be deemed as intellectual property of
UMA.
SCOPE OF SERVICES:
UMA understands that Orange County requested bids for helical tieback anchors based on the design
and plans performed by Draper Aden Associates. Unfortunately, there were too few bidders to move
forward with the project at the current project value. In an effort to reduce costs for the County and to
address the current rotational issue with the retaining wall, UMA is proposing to install mechanical
anchors in-lieu of the illustrated helical piles. Based on calculating the total design reaction load for three
helical piles and extrapolating it to four mechanical anchors, UMA has considered a total reaction of
16,500 pounds on each side. This would result in an ultimate anchor capacity required 6,188 pounds per
anchor considering four anchors.
Based on preliminary assumed typical fill soil parameters and drive depths of 20 feet, UMA believes that
this capacity is achievable. To ensure capacity is met, UMA will proof test one anchor per side to 150%
of the design load. The remaining anchors will be pulled to an activation load of 100% DL to rotate the
mechanical anchor.
In addition, all other project specifications and crack repair will be performed as related to the original bid
documentation.
If our proposed costs are acceptable, please feel free to sign this proposal and/or provide a purchase
order or similar documentation.
To aid in the evaluation of this alternate, UMA has included material technical data for the mechanical
anchors. As these anchors are performance based, UMA will provide a sealed material submittal
containing the ultimate capacities of the anchors.
 'i1:0 336 @ 992 0746 19:estimator@team-uma.com O:wwwfeam-uma.com f: PO.Box 1070,
F(336)9968573 Kernersville,NC27285smnsnF
