Since 1958, the Ackland has been one of North Carolina’s most important cultural resources, serv ing 60,000 people annually. The Museum’s permanent collection consists of 19,000 works, featuring the state’s premier collections of Asian art and works of art on paper, and significant collections of European masterworks, twentieth- century and contemporary art. In addition to permanent collection galleries, the Ackland organizes four major special exhibitions a year, and works to acquire, research, publish and preserv e works of art in their care.
