<br />073113.9 – ASPHALT SHINGLED ROOF SYSTEM <br /> <br />Project Manual for Motor Pool Main Building Roof Replacement <br />Orange County, Hillsborough, NC <br />Prepared by Atlas Engineering, Inc., 551-A Pylon Drive – Raleigh, NC 27606 <br />August 2021 <br /> <br /> <br />3.05 FLASHING <br /> <br />A. For sloping roofs which abut vertical surfaces, provide stepped metal flashing as per the <br />recommendations of the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA). Install step flashing <br />in accordance with Section 076200, Sheet Metal Flashing and Trim. Form step flashing with a 2" <br />head lap and a minimum extension of 4" over the underlying asphalt shingle and up the vertical <br />surface. <br /> <br />B. Provide edge metal and trim at all gables, rakes, and eaves. Secure metal to substrate with <br />fasteners at 12" o.c. unless otherwise noted on the design drawings or required by the <br />manufacturer. <br /> <br />C. Place rake metal tight with fascia board. Lap joints 2" and seal with flashing cement. <br /> <br />D. The top shingle to be covered by metal shall have a 3" head lap. <br /> <br /> <br />3.06 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL <br /> <br />A. Correct defects and irregularities as directed by Engineer or Owner’s representative. <br /> <br />B. Suspend application and installation activities during inclement weather. <br /> <br />C. Require technical representative of roof system manufacturer to make inspections as necessary to <br />qualify roofing system for manufacturer’s warranty specified in this section (minimum of 2 <br />visits). <br /> <br />D. Inform Engineer of all manufacturer’s inspections a minimum of 48 hours before inspection is to <br />take place. Provide a copy of manufacturer’s inspection reports to the Engineer. <br /> <br />3.07 PROTECTION OF FINISHED WORK <br /> <br />A. Restrict construction traffic and equipment movement on the completed roof to essential personnel. <br />Provide appropriate protection against traffic and construction activities on completed roofs. <br /> <br />B. Coordinate the proper order of associated work including, but not limited to adjacent single-ply <br />thermoplastic roof system installation, flashing installation, replacement of gutter lining, EIFS <br />repair and other miscellaneous installations to avoid damage to the new roof system. <br /> <br />3.08 TEMPORARY WATER CUT OFFS AND WATERTIGHNESS DURING CONSTRUCTION <br /> <br />A. Install a temporary watertight seal between the section of the new roof completed and the <br />adjacent existing roof system at the end of each work day. The new roof system shall be sealed <br />so that water will not be allowed to travel under the new or existing roof system.
