<br />073113.6 – ASPHALT SHINGLED ROOF SYSTEM <br /> <br />Project Manual for Motor Pool Main Building Roof Replacement <br />Orange County, Hillsborough, NC <br />Prepared by Atlas Engineering, Inc., 551-A Pylon Drive – Raleigh, NC 27606 <br />August 2021 <br /> <br />will not be exceeded. Clear sealant will not be accepted. Color shall be approved by the Engineer. <br />Acceptable manufacturers/products include, but are not limited to: Sika Corp., Sonneborn Building <br />Products, and Tremco, Inc. <br /> <br />E. Lead Penetration Flashings (Vent Pipes): Provide lead penetration flashings, minimum 4 lb. where <br />shown on drawings. Lead flashing must consist of a vertical sleeve soldered to a flange of adequate <br />size to allow for installation as shown on the drawings and allow for a 3” overlap over the exposed <br />slate at the downslope side and a 6” overlap beneath the last slate on the upslope side. Provide a <br />separate formed lead cap with watertight soldered seams. <br /> <br />F. Gas Vent Flashing: Shall be stainless steel pre-fabricated flashing specifically for gas pipes. A rain <br />collar is to be installed over the top of the flashing. <br /> <br />G. Sealant for Gas Vent: Shall be silicone based sealant similar to Pecora 864NST <br /> <br />H. Provide asphalt shingle roof system sealants/mastics as required by the roof system manufacturer <br />or as shown on the drawings for proper installation of system components. <br /> <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br /> <br />3.01 INSPECTION AND SURFACE PREPARATION <br /> <br />A. Define the area of roof to be removed in order to ensure that the entire area can be covered with <br />the new underlayment and made watertight during the same work day. <br /> <br />B. Plan the proper sequence of work between removal of existing roof components, installation of <br />new adjacent roof systems and transition flashings, and the installation of the underlayment and <br />asphalt shingled roof system to ensure details will be installed properly with the minimum of <br />construction traffic over the new roof system components. <br /> <br />C. Remove the existing shingled roof system, flashings and other items necessary for installation of <br />new roof system and dispose of off-site in accordance with Section 024110 of these <br />specifications. <br /> <br />D. Inspect and repair/replace existing composite roofdeck as required by Sections 024110 and <br />061000. Application of materials shall constitute acceptance of the surface by the contractor. <br />Should the Contractor find the substrate unacceptable and outside the preparation requirements <br />contracted for, the Owner’s representative shall be immediately notified in writing to allow <br />appropriate actions to be taken. <br /> <br />3.02 NAILBASE (BASE BID) AND VENTED NAILBASE (ALTERNATE BID 01) <br />INSTALLATION <br /> <br />A. Install nailbase insulation (non-vented for Base Bid and vented for Alternate Bid 01) over the <br />existing OSB at a minimum rate of 15 fasteners per 4’x8’ board in the field and 20 fasteners per <br />4’x8’ board at the perimeter, and 25 fasteners per 4’x8’ board at the corners. Use manufacturer’s <br />required fastener layout.
