<br />073113.5 – ASPHALT SHINGLED ROOF SYSTEM <br /> <br />Project Manual for Motor Pool Main Building Roof Replacement <br />Orange County, Hillsborough, NC <br />Prepared by Atlas Engineering, Inc., 551-A Pylon Drive – Raleigh, NC 27606 <br />August 2021 <br /> <br /> Note: The listed manufacturers are provided as examples of manufacturers and products that <br />typically meet the requirements of these specifications. The listed manufacturers are <br />acceptable only if they are able to meet the requirements of the specifications and listed <br />warranty requirements. The cited examples are used to denote the quality standard of <br />product desired. Requests for substitution of another manufacturer or product must be <br />submitted in writing to the Engineer for approval or disapproval no less than 10 days prior to <br />the bid date. Submitted requests must include sufficient documentation to indicate that <br />manufacturer and/or product submitted meet the requirements of these specifications and are <br />equivalent to the quality of those listed. Requests for substitutions must be submitted by <br />qualified project bidders and will not be accepted from manufacturers. <br /> <br />C. The Owner will select the shingle color from the manufacturer’s available standard colors upon <br />submittal of the color options by the roofing contractor. Manufacturer’s must have a minimum of <br />8 standard colors. <br /> <br />2.03 FASTENERS <br /> <br />A. Shingle Fasteners: Standard rough shank type roofing nails, corrosion resistant; hot dipped zinc <br />coated steel, aluminum, or stainless steel; minimum 3/8″ (9.5 mm) head diameter; minimum 11 or <br />12 gage (2.5 mm) shank diameter; shank to be of sufficient length to penetrate through roof <br />sheathing or 3/4″ into solid wood, plywood, or wood decking. <br /> <br />B. Nailbase Fasteners: Shall be a heavy duty, nailable insulation fastener with #4 heavy duty drill <br />point and supplied by the nailable roof insulation manufacturer. Fasteners must be of adequate <br />length to properly penetrate the existing OSB dependent on the use of non-vented or vented <br />nailbase. <br /> <br />C. Cap Nails for Underlayment: Shall be provided by the shingle manufacturer. <br /> <br />2.04 ACCESSORIES <br /> <br />A. Asphalt Roofing Cement: ASTM D 4586, Type I or II <br /> <br />B. Specialty Shingles: Provide special ridge, hip, and starter shingles specifically designed for <br />installation at these detail locations. Cut existing shingles for installation at hip and ridge <br />locations only if specifically recommended by the manufacturer for provision of warranty. <br /> <br />C. Ridge Vent: Provide a pre-fabricated, “shingle-over” ridge vent with external baffles to prevent <br />rain and snow infiltration. The width of the ridge vent must match the width of the ridge shingles <br />and must provide a minimum net free ventilating area of 16 square inches per linear foot. <br />Material shall be compatible with the shingles to be installed and approved by the shingle <br />manufacturer for use with their warranted system. <br /> <br />D. Sealants: For sealants required at any locations not specifically provided or recommended by the <br />roof system manufacturer, use, one-part, low modulus non-sag polyurethane-based sealant in <br />accordance with ASTM C920, Type S, Grade NS, Class 25.
