<br />073113.4 – ASPHALT SHINGLED ROOF SYSTEM <br /> <br />Project Manual for Motor Pool Main Building Roof Replacement <br />Orange County, Hillsborough, NC <br />Prepared by Atlas Engineering, Inc., 551-A Pylon Drive – Raleigh, NC 27606 <br />August 2021 <br /> <br />PART 2 PRODUCTS <br /> <br />2.01 NAILBASE AND UNDERLAYMENT <br /> <br />A. Nailbase Insulation (Base Bid): Shall be comprised of 1” thick polyisocyanurate bonded to <br />19/32” CDX plywood. Basis of design is Atlas ACFoam Nail Base. <br /> <br />B. Nailable Vented Roof Insulation (Alternate Bid 01): Shall be a cross ventilated, non-structural <br />composite insulation consisting of 1" thick polyisocyanurate insulation with a 19/32” thick <br />exterior grade plywood separated by and bonded to individual 1" thick wood or insulation spacers <br />to form a vented space. Manufactured in accordance with ASTM C1289, Type V. The <br />polyisocyanurate shall have a compressive strength of 20 psi per ASTM D1621. Use mechanical <br />fasteners of a type and length specifically recommended for the product installation in the <br />specified assembly by the manufacturer of the nailbase. Fasteners must be long enough to secure <br />nailbase through insulation and into the existing OSB. Basis of design is ACFoam CrossVent <br />manufactured by Atlas, Cool-Vent manufactured by Hunter, or approved equal. <br /> <br />C. Self-adhering Waterproof Underlayment (At perimeters, penetrations, and transitions): Sheet <br />barrier of self-adhering rubberized asphalt membrane underlayment with internal reinforcement <br />meeting ASTM D1970. Material shall be compatible with the shingles to be installed and <br />approved by the shingle manufacturer for use as a part of the warranted system. Materials to be <br />installed behind sheet metal flashings at perimeters shall be capable of withstanding anticipated <br />high temperatures without damage, deterioration, bleed, or binding. <br /> <br />D. Underlayment (Cover remaining roof area): Shall be a synthetic, high-strength polypropylene, <br />UV stabilized, slip resistant, resist wrinkling/buckling underlayment and must be provided by the <br />shingle manufacturer providing the warranty. <br /> <br />2.02 SHINGLES <br /> <br />A. Glass fiber mat base with ceramic colored/UV resistant, mineral surface granules across entire <br />face of shingle. Shingles shall be algae-resistant; minimum two-layer laminated <br />architectural/dimensional shingle with a minimum dimension of 12” x 36”, for installation with a <br />minimum 5″ exposure. <br /> <br />B. Shingles shall meet the following requirements: UL Certification of ASTM D3462; ASTM <br />D3018 Type I - Self-Sealing; ASTM D3161-03b, Class “F” Wind Resistance (110-mph); UL997 <br />Wind Resistance, and UL Class A Fire Resistance. <br /> <br /> 1. Acceptable manufacturer of shingles include: <br /> <br /> a. GAF – Timberline HDZ <br /> b. Owens Corning - Duration <br /> c. Certainteed – Landmark <br /> d.
