024110.1 – SELECTIVE DEMOLITION

Project Manual for Motor Pool Main Building Roof Replacement
Orange County, Hillsborough, NC
Prepared by Atlas Engineering, Inc., 551-A Pylon Drive – Raleigh, NC 27606
August 2021
SECTION 024110

SELECTIVE DEMOLITION

PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 WORK INCLUDED

A. Perform a Pre-Job Damage Survey prior to the start of work on-site including mobilization of
equipment, material delivery, and set-up of storage and staging areas.

B. Water test underground drain lines prior to the start of demolition for roof replacement to confirm
that they appear to be in working order (not clogged or damaged in a way that causes the back-up
or slow flow of draining water from downspouts).

C. Provide labor, materials, equipment, and supervision necessary to perform selective demolition,
which includes, but is not limited to the following:

a. Remove existing asphalt shingles, underlayment, perimeter edge metal, gutters, fascia, soffit,
downspouts, and support framing at the soffit/overhang to expose the existing oriented strand
board substrate. Care must be taken to avoid damage to the existing substrate during removal
of the existing roofing. Sequence the work so that crews do not remove more of the existing
roof system than can be maintained in a watertight condition prior to the end of each
workday. Removed materials should be disposed of legally off-site unless otherwise agreed
upon with the Owner.

b. Remove the EIFS (coating and insulation) to expose the sheathing along transitions with the
adjacent shingled roof system and directly below all window/louver assemblies on the south
elevation.

c. Protect components that will remain for reuse, including, but not limited to, nailable
substrate, portions of wood blocking, portions of the EIFS, sheathing, masonry walls,
windows, penetrations, louvers, etc.

d. Inspect the existing oriented strand board substrate, wood blocking, sheathing, and other
components noted to remain. Make repairs to, or replace, damaged or deteriorated materials
in accordance with applicable sections of these specifications. Protect and reuse existing
wood blocking and cold-formed framing only where shown on the design details or when
specifically approved on-site by the Designer. Otherwise install new materials. Inspect the
securement of the existing oriented strand board and install supplemental fasteners in
accordance within applicable sections of these specifications to provide wind uplift resistance
in accordance with the North Carolina State Building Code and ASCE-7. Refer to base bid
allowances (estimated quantities of work in Section 012100) for additional information.

e. Inspect roof penetrations and raise/extend penetrations as needed so they will maintain a
minimum 8” vertical flashing height above the shingled roof at the new roof thickness.
DocuSign Envelope ID: 9514E4EC-C3C9-4752-8A7F-22E83B22BB8E
