6 <br /> 1 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 2 NATIONAL 4-H WEEK PROCLAMATION <br /> 3 <br /> 4 WHEREAS, 4-H youth across the nation are leading efforts to solve problems in their <br /> 5 communities and make a difference for their futures; and <br /> 6 <br /> 7 WHEREAS, 4-H is the largest youth development organization in North Carolina and the largest <br /> 8 in the nation with over six million participants; and <br /> 9 <br /> 10 WHEREAS, 4-H in North Carolina claims 260,000 youth members and 13,000 volunteers, while <br /> 11 Orange County's 4-H program numbers more than 190 members and more than 50 volunteers; <br /> 12 and <br /> 13 <br /> 14 WHEREAS, 4-H as part of the NC Cooperative Extension System of NC State University and <br /> 15 NC A&T State University is a program where youth learn through opportunities that provide <br /> 16 them hands-on experiences in 4-H's mission mandates of science, engineering and technology; <br /> 17 healthy living; and citizenship; and <br /> 18 <br /> 19 WHEREAS, 4-H has connected youth and their communities with the innovative research and <br /> 20 resources from our nation's 112 land-grant universities and colleges for more than 118 years; <br /> 21 <br /> 22 NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Orange County Board of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim <br /> 23 October 3-9, 2021 as National 4-H Week in Orange County, and urge the people of this County <br /> 24 to take advantage of the opportunity to become more aware of this special program that <br /> 25 enhances our young people's interests in their futures as part of Orange County 4-H Youth <br /> 26 Development, and to join us in recognizing the unique partnership between our County and our <br /> 27 State University System. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 Adopted this the 14th day of September, 2021. <br /> 30 <br /> 31 <br /> 32 Renee Price, Chair <br /> 33 Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 34 <br /> 35 <br /> 36 A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Greene, to <br /> 37 approve the proclamation designating the week of October 3 through 9, 2021 as National 4-H <br /> 38 Week in Orange County, and authorize the Chair to sign. <br /> 39 <br /> 40 Roll call ensued <br /> 41 <br /> 42 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 43 <br /> 44 Commissioner Greene said she remembers meeting Camille Clark in 2019, and is <br /> 45 delighted to see her again and hear of her leadership within 4-H. <br /> 46 Commissioner McKee said he was a 4-H member for years, and was very informative <br /> 47 and formative. He said there are eight clubs throughout Orange County, and is not exclusively <br /> 48 agricultural. <br /> 49 Commissioner Fowler thanked everyone for their comments. She said has memories <br /> 50 from middle school when she entered the contest on the loss of agricultural land to <br /> 51 industrialization in Davie County. She encouraged the students to continue in their efforts. <br />
