Sheriff Knight stated that since he <br />new had personnel in his office during the evening hours he could see no use in continuing to pay <br />this money. It was agreeded that Commissioner Jones would discuss this matter with Fred Claytor, <br />L'ayor, before any decision would be made by the Board. <br />There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting was adjourned. <br />Betty June Hayes <br />Cleric <br />Donald Stanford <br />Chairman <br />minutes of the Orange County <br />Board of Commissioners <br />December 13, 1961 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in a special called session on Wednesday, <br />December 13, 1961, at ten o'clock a.m. at the courthouse in Hillsboro. <br />Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey Bennett, Clarence Jones, <br />Donald McDade and Henry Walker. <br />uembers absent: None <br />The purpose of this meeting was to meet with representatives of the State Highway Commission, <br />who had requested a meeting with the Board at 11 o'clock a.m. <br />Chairman Stanford brought to the attention of the Board a request which was made by the town <br />of Chapel Hill to have the county prepare their 1962 tax bills and scrolls thru the use of the <br />IM card system. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Barnett, and unanimously adopted, <br />the town of Chapel Hill was authorized to use the Iii card system in computing the town 1962 tax <br />bills and scrolls. The charges for this service is to be worked out by the County Accountant and <br />Chapel Hill's town manager, <br />T. A. Burton, Divisional Engineer, James G. 1'i.:acLamroc, Hihway Commissioner, Earl F. <br />Hower, District Engineer, and C. 1. Walters, Laintance Supervisor, vine present and presented to <br />the Board the secondary road plan for Orange County. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Walker, seconded by Commissioner Bennett, and unanimously <br />adopted,the secondary road plan ax-secondary-road plan as presented by the representatives of the <br />State Highway Commission was accented. <br />A road petition for Alma Street in Hillsboro was approved and the Clerk was requested to <br />forward sar,.e to the State Highway Commission. <br />A discussion regarding the Murihead request ensued. No action was taken on this matter. <br />George E. Levings, of the office of the County Attorney, informed the Board that Duke Power <br />?pany had after negotiations received an option for a power line right of :ay across the property <br />;ietered in the name of George D. Mitchell, Deed Book 10, at page 502, and that the negotiated <br />isideration for the right of way was $50.00. This lot is know: as Lot 5-A of the T. A, Henry <br />J. A. Giles Property on the Wrest side of Gore Street a short distance S. W. of the Chapel Hill <br />y limits. The right of way over this property involves only the Northwest corner of the property <br />only an overhang of the lines; no structures are involved. The right of way includes approximately <br />feet from the Northwest corner South. It has been determined that George Mitchell and wife, Rosa <br />shell (nmT deceased) have old are assistance liens against then which was filed on October 9, 1951, <br />a Book 3, at page 206. It is understood that George Mitchell is still on the relief rolls and <br />tines to receive relief. The exact amount of the lien to date was not reported. The property is <br />ted under the name of Viola citchell and taxes since 1955 are unpaid to date in a total amount of <br />The porter line is a part of the new line which Duke Power Company is brinwing in to Chapel <br />to supply the urgent needs of the University. It was represented that ur• WKIte, Chief of the <br />y Welfare Department, had no objection to the granting of the right of way upon payment to the <br />y by Duke Power Company of the x50.00 which was the negotiated price for the same and the <br />tered owner. <br />After full discussion, upon motion of Commissioner Clarence Jones, seconded by Commissioner <br />tt, the following resolution was adopted: <br />RESOLVED, that an easement of right of say for transmission line purposes over and across the <br />registered in the name of George Mitchell as above set forth and described be granted to Duke <br />Company by Orange County upon payment to the Clerk of the Superior Coup.t of $50.00 by Duke
