23
Commissioner McKee said his original inclination was to direct the whole $28 million to
broadband, but he knows that is not feasible. He said the taskforce has discussed asking for
up to $10 million, but $5 million shows the County is serious, and there are other needs that are
just as important. He said a lot of things will stay online after the pandemic, and not having the
ability to engage in this format is a disservice to the community. He said $5 million is a
reasonable amount, but is not enough. He said other funding pools will have to be used to
address the rest.
Commissioner Greene agreed completely, and said $5 million is a respectable amount
to put on the table to get the infrastructure started.
Commissioner McKee said it is enough to get providers attention.
Chair Price reiterated Commissioner McKee's point that there is action at the State and
Federal level to help pay for broadband, and the County can marry some of the different
programs together to have a full blown well rounded system.
Slide #25
ORANGE COUNTYFY2021-22 BUDGET
Aw1rWmw#
21-22CIP-D13 SmrrAmendrnenl Ernrrgancy Rove pre Wrnate for pre Emergency S
Sen+css Sermes s9udy consuFtanL (03,04D.007
21-22CIP-014 &affArno dmonl SoM Wam- Poarnawe SMO,WO horn*w 2{FY 22-237 $
Promnetary hrrrtlpg In the Sala Wwds -C&D Lsrrtrd & (589,Da6.D4J
Ordrance Area-Vemiola and Eoluiprnanl
FEsoKarneot 15n$xI tars Compsclor due to
tha rnnna*a6a naed to replace pre
Cornpaclor in FY 20-21
ORANGE COUNTY
011171[CARD].I.N.-i
Bonnie Hammersley said the Board will have further discussion on the amendments
during its June 8 meeting.
3.
