She said hopefully the number of people will come down
through the appeals process. She said she wants to help people who are tax burdened, in
order to get a handle on gentrification.
Commissioner Dorosin clarified his remarks and said that he supported setting up a
fund.
Chair Price said she would like to partner with non-profit organizations and County
Departments to come up with criteria and plan.
Commissioner Fowler asked for clarification on Chair Price's amendment.
Chair Price said she just wants to set aside money to assist residents.
Commissioner Fowler asked for clarification of the amount.
Chair Price said she was thinking of an amount lower than $500,000. She said she did
not want to rely on the Social Justice Fund, because these funds may be needed for OWASA
bills or other needs.
Chair Price said she would want to set aside $250,000 to relieve tax burdens. She said
the Cheek Jackson Center would be eligible to pursue some of these funds.
Commissioner Fowler said she could support either.
Commissioner Greene said she wants specificity on this motion, and there should be a
limit of the AMI. She said $500,000 is too high, and she would stop it at 80%
Commissioner McKee asked if the Board would accept a change of wording in the
amendment to say that $250,000 be set aside for grant tax assistance for those making 80%
less than the AMI, with details being worked out in a work session after summer break.
Commissioner Dorosin said he would include the phrase "as well as any other criteria,
as established." He said $250,000 is the right amount.
The Board agreed by consensus with Commissioner Dorosin's additional wording.
A motion was made by Commissioner McKee, seconded by Commissioner Dorosin, to
approve setting aside $250,000 for grant tax assistance for those making 80% less than the
AMI, as well as other criteria as established.
Roll call ensued.
VOTE: UNANIMOUS
