She said the <br /> subcommittee spoke with 40-50 community members to determine who else should be talked to <br /> over the summer. She said the overarching themes were that the community wants to be <br /> involved with developing the plan; must reach out to marginalized communities; and include <br /> schools. She said there will be a definition section, as well as a section of a racialized history of <br /> Orange County. She said there will be current demographic and economic data analysis, racial <br /> equity foundations training for the County and all municipalities. She said there will also be a <br /> pilot for the racial equity tool in each jurisdiction to see how it works and if there are kinks that <br /> need to be fixed. She said the subcommittees will work throughout the summer, and there will <br /> be another public hearing in the fall. <br /> Commissioner Greene asked if staff could more about the partnership with SAS <br /> Nancy Coston, DSS Director, said SAS does small, time-limited projects called "Data for <br /> Good". She said SAS agreed to work with the County on this index. She said SAS has a strong <br /> team with statistical expertise, and this is an exciting opportunity for the County. She said she <br /> hopes SAS can help the County determine where the biggest impacts need to be made. <br /> Commissioner Hamilton said the presentation helped her understand the direction this is <br /> going. She said she is excited to have the collaboration with SAS and is interested to see what <br /> data they come up with. She said she will have to pull old skills out of the back of her mind to <br /> analyze their findings. <br /> Commissioner Fowler said she sees a lot of questions, and is curious to know when <br /> those questions will be answered. <br /> Annette Moore said over the summer, some of the questions will be answered. She said <br /> there will be a written narrative to the racial equity tool, which will answer some of those <br /> questions, and some questions will be answered after engagement with community. <br /> Commissioner Fowler referred to the dashboard, and asked if there are any other <br /> demographics that will be examined. <br /> Annette Moore said income. <br /> Commissioner Fowler asked about disability, and recommended it be included. <br /> Annette Moore said half of fair housing cases involve a disability. <br /> Commissioner Fowler commended the collaborative effort. <br /> Commissioner Bedford referred to the different types of training on the abstract, and <br /> asked if the differences between then could be clarified. She asked if there is a process by <br /> which the Commissioners fit in with training, the use of tools, and timelines. <br /> Annette Moore said the hope is that the BOCC will be involved in this process just like <br /> staff and boards and commission members. She said the desire is for everyone to be on the <br /> same page and have the same knowledge. She said the difference between the trainings, is <br />
