Provide a brief <br />description of your <br />pre-pandemic core <br />arts-related <br />programming or <br />offerings. <br />W COM community radio, Carrboro’s only daily media operation, <br />offers citizens the opportunity to create radio and serv e the <br />community. W e prov ide <br />119.5 hours of music programming per week, 71% of our 24/7 airtime <br />is music, recorded or liv e performances in the studio, predominantly <br />by local artist. <br />Locally owned and operated broadcast media - Carrboro's only daily <br />traditional media operation <br />Training for residents in radio production and broadcasting, including <br />the disabled and people of color <br />Deliv ery of PSA’s. <br />Interv iews with area artists, musicians, actors and playwrights, and <br />community leaders. <br />The signal cov ers most of southern Orange County free ov er the air <br />to anyone with a radio. It can be heard on the Internet at no charge <br />worldwide, making it an international beacon for the arts in Orange <br />County as befits a non-profit formed to execute what was in 1997 the <br />largest priv ately produced public art exhibition in County history. <br />North Carolina’s <br />“stay at home” order <br />(Executive Order <br />117) had a profound <br />impact on the arts <br />sector. Describe the <br />specific steps your <br />organization took to <br />comply with <br />Executive Order 117. <br />W e closed the studios in March 2020 while permitting hosts to record <br />programming at home. W e reopened on a limited basis in late June. <br />Since then we hav e required face masks and regular wiping down of <br />surfaces with disinfectant. <br />Please explain the <br />impact of your <br />organization on the <br />Orange County <br />community in a <br />typical year. <br />W COM prov ides 8760 hours of programming per year, the majority <br />locally produced by v olunteers trained by W COM. 6220 of those <br />hours are music programming. All 6220 hours of music programming <br />is produced by W COM programmers. <br />Programming includes liv e performances and interv iews with local <br />musicians and interv iews with v isual and theatre artists. Until <br />recently, we had a show that offered new play readings weekly.
