Please explain the
impact of your
organization on the
Orange County
community in a
typical year.
We serve on average over 200 students at St. Thomas More
Elementary School and over 80 families every Saturday in our now
online Spanish immersion heritage language program. ISLA fills a
critical and growing community need. Since our founding in 2012, we
have expanded from one student program to four student programs,
three community outreach projects, and 2 parent advocacy projects
to better serve our youth and their families. We have focused our
efforts in responding to needs presented by our youth leaders and
have included a high school leadership and "growth coaching"
group. ISLA is a program that has built a dedicated and caring
community of students, families, teachers, and volunteers. With our
variety of programs we bring a service that is not found in Orange
County. We provide a space for our families to find resources and
support in their preferred language, we provide opportunities for
leadership growth within our community. In June through August a
group of ISLA parents worked with other parents in the county to
assure that Orange County Schools did not cut funding for their
Spanish program and that the county knew that there were needs
within the schools and the community that were not being met
including language access. ISLA facilitated interpretation services for
our parents not only at their school board meeting but at the county
commissioners meeting as well. Our organization is committed to
bringing positive change to the communities we serve and to shift
power to our parents and students in our community. Our impact is
much further than just cultural pride and language learning. We are a
place of resources and support for our families and students.
COVID-19 IMPACT
DATA
This data is for the OCAC's informational purposes only and may or
may not be applicable to your organization depending on your
structure.
Number of Staff
Eliminated March 15
- October 15
0
Number of Staff
Positions
Furloughed/Hours
Reduced March 15 -
October 15
1FT to PT
Number of Public
Events Cancelled
March 15 - October
15
39
Total Lost
Attendance, March
15-October 15
300
Number of Artists
paid March-
September, 2019
0
DocuSign Envelope ID: 304AFFB7-BE23-4C41-880A-7079B417D58A
