Construction Documents <br />20033 <br />Orange County Europa Center <br />26 0101 - 5 ELECTRICAL GENERAL <br />PROVISIONS <br />C.Any cutting or patching required for installation of this Contractor's work shall be kept to a <br />minimum. Written approval shall be required by the Architect/Engineer if cutting of primary <br />structure is involved. <br />D.All patching shall be done in such a manner as to restore the areas or surfaces to match <br />existing finishes. <br />E.The Contractor shall lay-out and install his work in advance of pouring concrete floors or walls. <br />He shall furnish and install all sleeves or openings through poured masonry floors or walls <br />above grade required for passage of all conduits, pipes or duct installed by him. The Contractor <br />shall furnish and install all inserts and hangers required to support his equipment. <br />F.The non current non current carrying metallic parts of electrical equipment and enclosures <br />including conduits, supports, cabinets, transformer tanks, motor frames, switchgear enclosures, <br />control panels, etc, which are installed or connected shall be properly grounded by connection <br />to the grounding system regardless of whether or not these connections are shown on the <br />drawings. <br />G.Each branch circuit above grade shall have a dedicated neutral for each phase conductor. <br />Branch circuit conductors shall contain no more than one of each phase conductor. <br />H.Single conductor wiring within switchgear, distribution panels, and other large enclosures shall <br />be neatly bundled, dressed and bound to the framework of the enclosure or other members <br />placed for this purpose to prevent loose or free hanging conductors. <br />I.Single conductor cables must be terminated as per manufacturer’s recommendations to prevent <br />sheath overheating. Manufacturer’s configuration and installation recommendations must be <br />followed completely. <br />J.Splicing: Joints in solid conductors shall be spliced using Ideal "wirenuts", 3M Company <br />"Scotchlock" or T&B connectors in junction boxes, outlet boxes and lighting fixtures. Joints in <br />stranded conductors shall be spliced by approved mechanical connectors and gum rubber tape <br />or friction tape. Solderless mechanical connectors for splices and taps, provided with <br />U/L-approved insulating covers, may be used instead of mechanical connectors plus tape. <br />Conductors, in all cases, shall be continuous from outlet to outlet and no splicing shall be made <br />except within outlet or junction boxes, troughs and gutters. "Sta-kon" or other permanent type <br />crimp connectors shall not be used for branch circuit connections <br />K.Conduits shall be run exposed inside the building in unfinished areas. Exposed conduit shall be <br />run parallel to or at right angles to the line of the building. <br />L.Conduit shall be securely supported and fastened. Conduit shall be installed entirely free from <br />other piping and other mechanical equipment and shall not be installed within 6” of any hot <br />water or steam threaded joint or exterior conduit of galvanized steel placed in concrete or in <br />contact with the earth. <br />M.Conduits installed on the interior of exterior building walls shall be spaced off the wall surface a <br />minimum of ¼” using “clamp backs” or strut. <br />N.Threaded joint or exterior conduit of galvanized steel place in concrete or in contact with the <br />earth shall have threads painted with rust inhibiting paint. <br />O.Electrical contractor shall protect all conduits from damage and the entrance of water and <br />foreign matter during the construction period. Water tight stopper or caps shall be installed <br />immediately after the conduit is installed and removed only when wires are to be installed. <br />P.Insulated bushings shall be used on the ends of all conduits in outlet boxes, junction boxes, pull <br />boxes, panels, etc to protect the conductor insulation during installation. Provide conduit <br />expansion joints where conduit crosses building expansion joints. <br />Q.Electrical contractor shall provide all sleeves, nipples, and opening required for the installation <br />of conduit. Sleeves shall project 2” above and below the floor.
