Construction Documents
20033
Orange County Europa Center
26 0101 - 3 ELECTRICAL GENERAL
PROVISIONS
B.Wire for branch circuits shall be #12 AWG for runs up to 50 ft., and #10 for runs over 50 ft.
Wire for branch circuits greater than 20 amps shall be sized for the voltage drop at the outlet to
3% and in no case shall the wire be smaller than #10 AWG.
C.Wire insulation shall be 600V rated type THWN or THHN or XHHW unless noted otherwise.
Conductors routed in conduit above grade where exposed to sunlight shall have Type XHHW-2
insulation.
D.Provide insulation resistance testing for all new feeder conductors. Provide test results to
engineer prior to energizing new feeders.
E.All conductors shall have an identification printed on the jacket and shall contain the following
information: manufacturer’s name & location, cable trade name, conductors size and voltage
rating, identification of insulation and jacket material, and UL label.
F.For large conductors not generally furnished with colored insulation, identification shall be
achieved by the use of plastic tape or sleeves of the appropriate color. Where used, the
method of coding shall be incorporated in all junction boxes, switched, etc. that comprise the
conduit system.
2.03 CONDUIT
A.Electric Metallic Conduit (EMT) and Fittings: EMT conduit and fittings ANSI C80-3 galvanized
tubing, ANSI/NEMA FB1. EMT Conduit fittings shall be steel plated compression connectors.
No pot metal, set screw or indenter will be allowed.
B.Rigid Steel Conduit and Fittings: Rigid steel conduit shall be hot dip galvanized steel conduit,
standard pipe sizes with threaded joints. Field threaded conduit shall be properly cleaned and
coated with cold galvanize to prevent corrosion.
C.Flexible Conduit and Fittings: Liquid tight flexible conduit shall have a copper bonding tape and
a weatherproof exterior cover. Fittings shall be specifically designed for the purpose of durable
watertight connections. Use liquid tight flexible conduit for final motor connections. Limit lengths
to 3 ft. for motor connections, and 6 ft. for lighting fixtures.
D.Conduit Applications: All raceways are to contain an equipment grounding conductor and must
be installed with the circuit conductors. Minimum Conduit size shall be 3/4”. Unless noted
otherwise, use the following types of conduit.
1.Interior Areas - General: 2 inch size and below: EMT, above 2 inch size: Rigid galvanized
steel.
2.Interior areas subject to physical damage at a level of 6 feet or below: Rigid Galvanized
Steel.
3.Exterior Areas Mounted Above Grade, and Above Roof, and at Service Entrance: Rigid
Galvanized Steel.
4.Underground Areas: PVC schedule 40. Refer to plans to determine concrete encasement
requirements.
2.04 BOXES AND ENCLOSURES
A.Provide outlet boxes, pull and junction boxes as required. For concealed wiring, boxes are to
be pressed steel, zinc-coated of suitable size and depth. For exposed wiring, boxes are to be
malleable iron sized to accept standard device plates. Pull and junction boxes are to be steel
with removable screw cover and industrial grey finish. Indoor enclosures are to be rated NEMA
1, and outdoor enclosures are to be rated NEMA 3R.
B.Disconnect Switches: All disconnect switches, whether used as distribution splitters or as an
isolation switch shall be of the quick-make, quick break heavy duty type with interlocking cover
and provision for locking cover in the “Off” position. Provision shall be made to defeat door
interlock with screwdriver. Provide a disconnect switch ahead of all motors, starters, and
electrical equipment where required to meet code regulations. Fused switches shall have steel
spring reinforced fuse clips. Fuses for 600A circuits or less shall be limiting with 200K Amp
interrupting rating. Motor, fuses shall be Class RK5, U/L listed, current limiting time. Service
Entrance & Feeder fuses shall be Class RK1 or J, U/L listed.
DocuSign Envelope ID: ECCAC5A0-6CC8-4B37-8AD3-89D69F0AE1AE
