Gattis, Acting Clerk <br />- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - --- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - <br />Minutes of the Board of Commissioners <br />July 6, 1961 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday, July 6, 1961, at 7:30 o'clock <br />p.m. in the gmmaissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N. C. The purpose of this <br />meeting was to discuss the 1961-1962 budget. <br />Members present: Chairman Donald Stanford, Commissioners Harvey Bennett, Clarence D. Jones, <br />Donald McDade and Henry Walker. <br />Members absent: Hone <br />Commissioner McDade moved the acceptance of the budget of the County School Unit as a basis of <br />allocating school current expense funds. Commissioner Bennett gave a second to this motion and when <br />Chairman Stanford called for a vote there were 5 ayes and 0 noes. <br />When the subject of personnel compensation for Extention employees was reached Commissioner <br />Jones requested that he be recorded as being opposed to any further salary increase_on'the part <br />of the County for the Horne Demonstration Agent. He took this position because the total compensation <br />of this position was already as high as should be in a county the size of Orange. <br />Having concluded a discussion of all departmental budgets and being informed of the revenue <br />the county might expect from all sources during the coming year the discussion then turned to the <br />selection of a suitable tax rate. <br />After a lengthy discussion Commissioner Walker moved that the tax rate be set at $1.00 for <br />the coming year. Commissioner McDade gave a second to this motion and when Chairman Stanford called <br />for a vote there were 5 ayes and 0 noes. <br />In order to balance revenue and appropriations and hold to a tax rate of $1.00 the Accountant <br />informed the Board that approximately $25,000.00 must still be taken from the budget requests. <br />After considerable discussion Commissioner '.Talker moved that $25,000.00 be taken from the <br />Capital Outlay budge of the County Unit under Code 60144. Commissioner Jones gave a second to <br />this motion and when Chairman :Stanford called for a vote there were 5 ayes and 0 noes. <br />The accountant was directed to incorporate all, budget decision into a complete budget and <br />present this document at a meeting which was to be held on Monday, July 28th, at 8 o'clock p.m. <br />There being no further business this meeting was adjourned. <br />Donald Stanford <br />Sam Bettis Chairman <br />Acting Clerk <br />__________________________________________________ <br />Minutes of the Board of Commissioners <br />July 27, 1961 <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met on Thursday, July 27, 19613 at 8 o'clock p.m. _ <br />in the Commissioners room at the courthouse in Hillsboro, N.
