28
D ORANGEDEMOCRATS
August 19, 2021
Via Email
Dear Orange County Board of County Commissioners,
As you know,on August 14,2021,the County Executive Committee of the Orange County
Democratic Party (the "CEC") met in an open, virtual meeting to consider whom to recommend
to the Orange County Board of County Commissioners ("BoCC")to fill the vacancy on the BoCC
left by the departure of Commissioner Mark Dorosin. Following precedent, for each applicant to
fill the vacancy,CEC members residing in Commission District 1 voted `yes' or`no' as to whether
such applicant should receive the CEC's recommendation, with applicants receiving weighted-
majority votes in the affirmative receiving a recommendation.
Per that vote, each of the four applicants for the BoCC vacancy—in alphabetical
order by last name, Marilyn Carter, Rani Dasi, Penny Rich, and Anna Richards—received
the CEO's recommendation.
Thank you for your consideration. For the avoidance of doubt, please note that
our transmission of these recommendations is intended to fulfill the consultation requirement of
N.C. Gen. Stat. § 152A-27(c).
Sincerely,
Jonah Garson, OCDP Chair
Phyllis Portie-Ascott, OCDP First Vice Chair
Anissa Graham-Davis, OCDP Second Vice Chair
Alexandra Allman, OCDP Third Vice Chair
Maggie Holly, OCDP Fourth Vice Chair
Joe Becker, OCDP Secretary
Dennis Swartzlander, OCDP Treasurer
