1
INFORMATION ITEM
MEMORANDUM
To: Orange County Board of Commissioners
From: Greg Wilder, County Manager's Office
Date: August 26, 2021
Re: Transmittal of the Final Report from the BOCC Elections Advisory Group
(BEAG) on the Process for Electing County Commissioners in Orange
County
Please see attached the Final Report from the BOCC Elections Advisory Group
(BEAG) on the Process for Electing County Commissioners in Orange County.
Following the BOCC's appointment of BEAG members and approval of the
Group's Charge, the BEAG met from late February through early August. Group
Co-Chairs Lisa Hazirjian and Patrick Mulkey led the Group, with the assistance of
BEAG Facilitator (and Retired District Court Judge) Jay Bryan.
In concert with the BOCC's May 18, 2021 consensus agreement to extend the
BEAG's report deadline from July 31 to August 15, 2021, the BEAG approved its
Final Report at its last meeting on August 5, 2021. The attached Final Report
details the Group's activities, discussions and materials reviewed, and provides
recommendations for BOCC consideration.
Board members and the public are encouraged to review the Report. Based on
staff discussion with BOCC Chair Renee Price and Vice Chair Jamezetta
Bedford, the Report will be scheduled for formal presentation to the Board of
Commissioners at the Board's October 5, 2021 Business meeting. Judge Bryan,
joined by Group Co-Chairs Hazirjian and Mulkey, will present the Final Report to
the Board. Other Group members may also be present. The October 5t"
presentation will include the opportunity for questions, answers and comments,
as well as the opportunity to hear from any members of the public who would like
to speak. County staff will also be requesting any feedback from the Board on
any next steps.
hope this information is helpful, and please let me know any questions.
