10 <br /> 1 BACKGROUND: <br /> 2 After almost 9 years of service as a member of the Orange County Board of Commissioners, <br /> 3 Commissioner Mark Dorosin will step down from his position on July 31, 2021. The Orange <br /> 4 County Board of Commissioners would like to thank Commissioner Dorosin for his hard work, <br /> 5 dedication, and exemplary service to the residents of Orange County, and wish him and his <br /> 6 family the very best in their future endeavors. <br /> 7 Chair Price read the resolution: <br /> 8 <br /> 9 ORANGE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> 10 RESOLUTION OF COMMENDATION <br /> 11 FOR <br /> 12 COMMISSIONER MARK DOROSIN <br /> 13 <br /> 14 WHEREAS, the residents of Orange County first elected Mark Dorosin to the Board of County <br /> 15 Commissioners in 2012, and re-elected him in 2016 and in 2020; and <br /> 16 <br /> 17 WHEREAS, Commissioner Mark Dorosin has served the residents of Orange County <br /> 18 regardless of geographic location faithfully and with honor, integrity, and distinction for the past <br /> 19 nine years; and <br /> 20 <br /> 21 WHEREAS, Commissioner Dorosin has taken special interest in addressing social justice and <br /> 22 community engagement, focusing on poverty, affordable housing, education equity, racial and <br /> 23 socio-economic inclusion, and broad-based resident participation in county government; and <br /> 24 <br /> 25 WHEREAS, Commissioner Dorosin was a vocal advocate for the rights and well-being of the <br /> 26 residents of the Historic Rogers Road Neighborhood, voting to close the county landfill, to <br /> 27 provide water and sewer to the neighborhood and to build a new community center; and <br /> 28 <br /> 29 WHEREAS, during his tenure as an Orange County Commissioner, Mark Dorosin has served <br /> 30 on many boards and commissions, including the Orange County Local Government Affordable <br /> 31 Housing Collaborative, the Justice Advisory Council, the Durham Technical Community College <br /> 32 Board of Trustees, Healthy Carolinians, the Chatham Orange Joint Planning Task Force, the <br /> 33 Legislative Issues Work Group, the ABC Board, the Intergovernmental Parks Work Group, and <br /> 34 the Fire Chiefs Association; and <br /> 35 <br /> 36 WHEREAS, Commissioner Mark Dorosin served as Chair of the Orange County Board of <br /> 37 County Commissioners in 2016 and 2017, following his service as Vice Chair in 2015; <br /> 38 <br /> 39 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Orange County Board of Commissioners <br /> 40 officially commends Commissioner Mark Dorosin for his hard work, dedication and exemplary <br /> 41 service to the people of Orange County, and wishes him and his family the very best in their <br /> 42 future endeavors; and <br /> 43 <br /> 44 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution of commendation be presented to <br /> 45 Commissioner Mark Dorosin and that the Resolution be spread upon the minutes of this <br /> 46 meeting. <br /> 47 <br /> 48 <br /> 49 <br />
