ORANGE COUNTY <br />BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br />ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br />Meeting Date: August 16, 2005 <br />Action Agee <br />Item No. <br />SUBJECT: Ratification of Right-of-Way Dedication Acceptance -New Hope Preserve <br />Tract <br />DEPARTMENT: Environment and Resource PUBLIC HEARING: (Y/N) No <br />Conservation <br />ATTACHMENT(S): <br />Copy of Final Plat <br />INFORMATION CONTACT: <br />David Stancil, 245-2590 <br />Rich Shaw, 245-2591 <br />Geoff Gledhill, 732-2196 <br />TELEPHONE NUMBERS: <br />Hillsborough 732-8181 <br />Chapel Hill 968-4501 <br />Durham 688-7331 <br />Mebane 336-227-2031 <br />PURPOSE: To ratify the acceptance of the dedication of an additional five feet of right-of- <br />way along the Erwin Road boundary of the County's New Hope Preserve property. <br />BACKGROUND: On June 7, the Board authorized the County's purchase of an estimated 8- <br />acre property from Duke University for a future Hollow Rock Access Area, consistent with the <br />adapted Lands Legacy Action Plan and the New Hope Corridor Open Space Master Plan. <br />The purchase of this land is expected to be completed by mid-August. Prior to the closing, <br />Orange County subdivision regulations required that the subject property be divided from a <br />larger tract owned by Duke University by way of the minor subdivision process, The <br />stbdivision rules required that an additional five feet of right-of-way be dedicated along the <br />northern boundary of the property with Erwin Road (S.R 1737), Duke University executed <br />the subdivision plat of the property making this public road dedication, The Board is now <br />being asked to ratify acceptance of this dedication on behalf of the public without <br />maintenance responsibility. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: None <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board ratify acceptance of <br />the 5-foot wide dedication of public right-of-way along Erwin Road, as shown on the copy of <br />the attached plat, without maintenance responsibility. <br />
