1
Calvin Barber
From:Calvin Barber
Sent:Tuesday, March 2, 2021 9:22 AM
To:'Drew Wilgus'; 'abarnes@orangecountync.gov'
Cc:Ashley Taylor; Glenn Wise
Subject:FW: Hillsborough Commons Skylights - Curb Detail
Drew,

This email from Cushman Wakefield provides direction for the project to proceed in accordance with directions from the
roofing manufacturer and not according to the contract documents.

Unfortunately, the roofing manufacturer and the roof warranty that appears to be the driving element in this decision-
making process, but was not disclosed in the bid documents and therefore not considered by CCI. The issue of the roof
warranty only surfaced a little over a week ago when we started to receive phone calls from a roofing installer.

Of course, the skylight manufacturer will not let a roofing manufacturer dictate the details of the fabrication and
installation of their product and still provide the warranty required by specification.

We spoke with the skylight installer this morning regarding the roofer’s detail and his response was that he would ask
the skylight manufacturer if they would refabricate some of the skylight, but likely, it will not be entertained.

As initially indicated, it appears that this project being asked to sacrifice the skylight guarantee in exchange for the
roofing guarantee, which again was not disclosed to us.

We have directed the not installer not to proceed with any further work until you have resolved the competing interest
between Cushman Wakefield, Garland and the design documents.

Hopefully, these issues can be resolved, and clear direction provided not later than March 8, 2021.

From: Debi Hunter/USA <debi.hunter@cushwake.com>
Sent: Tuesday, March 2, 2021 8:06 AM
To: Paxton Whitmore <pwhitmore@garlandind.com>; Calvin Barber <cbarber@carolinaci.com>
Cc: Drew Wilgus <dwilgus@smithsinnett.com>; Rob Banks <rbanks@garlandind.com>; Curtis Lee/USA
<curtis.lee@cushwake.com>; Ashley Taylor <ataylor@carolinaci.com>; Scott Mcconnell
<smcconnell@smithsinnett.com>; Glenn Wise <gwise@carolinaci.com>
Subject: RE: Hillsborough Commons Skylights - Curb Detail

Good morning – please confirm that the skylights will be installed per the directions from Garland. There are
no alternatives on this issue, anything else will void our warranty.

Thanks -

Debi Hunter, LEED Green Associate
Director of Operations

DocuSign Envelope ID: 348125E7-D480-4807-896D-2DA6D1D90CCE
