Southern Human Services Center Smith Sinnett /2020072 <br />HVAC and Roof Renovations Orange County,North Carolina <br />HVAC Ducts and Casings 23 31 00 - 1 <br />SECTION 23 31 00 <br />HVAC DUCTS AND CASINGS <br />PART 1 GENERAL <br />1.01 SECTION INCLUDES <br />A.Metal ductwork. <br />1.02 REFERENCE STANDARDS <br />A.ASTM A36/A36M -Standard Specification for Carbon Structural Steel 2014. <br />B.ASTM A653/A653M -Standard Specification for Steel Sheet,Zinc-Coated (Galvanized)or Zinc- <br />Iron Alloy-Coated (Galvannealed)by the Hot-Dip Process 2020. <br />C.ASTM E84 -Standard Test Method for Surface Burning Characteristics of Building Materials 2020. <br />D.SMACNA (DCS)-HVAC Duct Construction Standards Metal and Flexible 2005 (Revised 2009). <br />E.SMACNA (LEAK)-HVAC Air Duct Leakage Test Manual 2012. <br />F.UL 181 -Standard for Factory-Made Air Ducts and Air Connectors current edition,including all <br />revisions. <br />1.03 SUBMITTALS <br />A.Product Data: Provide data for duct materials and duct connections. <br />B.Shop Drawings: Indicate duct fittings,particulars such as gages,sizes,welds,and configuration <br />prior to start of work for 1/2"pressure class and higher systems. <br />1.Clearly indicate which fittings shall be used on the project:elbows,wyes,takeoffs,transitions, <br />offsets,etc. <br />C.Test Reports: Indicate pressure tests performed. Include date,section tested,test pressure,and <br />leakage rate,following SMACNA (LEAK). <br />1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE <br />A.Manufacturer Qualifications: Company specializing in manufacturing the type of products specified <br />in this section,with minimum three years of documented experience,and approved by <br />manufacturer. <br />B.Galvanizing thickness and country of origin must be clearly stenciled on each duct section.At the <br />discretion of the Engineer,sheet metal gauges and reinforcing may be randomly checked to verify <br />all duct construction is in compliance. <br />C.Ductwork and fittings must have a computer generated label affixed to each section detailing the <br />duct dimensions,sheet metal gauge,intermediate and joint reinforcement size,and the transverse <br />connector brand and classification. <br />1.05 FIELD CONDITIONS <br />A.Do not install duct sealants when temperatures are less than those recommended by sealant <br />manufacturers. <br />B.Maintain temperatures within acceptable range during and after installation of duct sealants. <br />C.If ductwork is stored on site,elevate duct above floors and maintain protection on ends. <br />PART 2 PRODUCTS <br />2.01 DUCT ASSEMBLIES <br />A.Regulatory Requirements: Construct ductwork to comply with NFPA 90A standards. <br />B.Duct transverse joints and reinforcement materials,including angle ring flanges and stiffeners, <br />shall be of the same material as the duct. <br />C.Ducts: Galvanized steel,unless otherwise indicated. <br />D.Low Pressure Supply (Heating Systems): 2 inch w.g.pressure class,galvanized steel. <br />E.Low Pressure Supply (System with Cooling Coils): 2 inch w.g.pressure class,galvanized steel. <br />F.Medium and High Pressure Supply: 6 inch w.g.pressure class,galvanized steel. <br />DocuSign Envelope ID: 94E7997D-4F29-42F6-A9B4-0A160438D2A6
