Southern Human Services Center Smith Sinnett /2020072 <br />HVAC and Roof Renovations Orange County,North Carolina <br />HVAC Piping Insulation 23 07 19 - 4 <br />6.Manufacturers: <br />a.Alumaguard <br />b.ITW <br />c.Johns Manville <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br />3.01 EXAMINATION <br />A.Test piping for design pressure,liquid tightness,and continuity prior to applying insulation <br />materials. <br />B.Verify that surfaces are clean and dry,with foreign material removed. <br />3.02 INSTALLATION <br />A.Install in accordance with ​manufacturer's instructions​and the MICA manual 8th edition.In cases of <br />conflict,the more stringent instructions shall apply. <br />B.Where existing piping insulation is either relocated or damaged during construction,it shall be <br />reinsulated per above. <br />C.All new piping shall be insulated per above. <br />D.Where insulation thickness exceeds 3 inches,the insulation shall be two layers.Secure first layer <br />before installing the next layer and stagger the joints. <br />E.Install multiple layers of insulation with longitudinal and end seams staggered. <br />F.Install accessories compatible with insulation materials and suitable for the service.Install <br />accessories that do not corrode,soften,or otherwise attack insulation or jacket in either wet or dry <br />state. <br />G.Install insulation with least number of joints practical. <br />H.Exposed Piping: Locate insulation and cover seams in least visible locations. <br />I.For hot piping conveying fluids over 120 degrees F,insulate flanges and unions at equipment. <br />J.Glass Fiber Insulated Pipes Conveying Fluids Above Ambient Temperature: <br />1.Provide standard jackets,with vapor barrier,factory-applied or field-applied. Secure with self- <br />sealing longitudinal laps and butt strips with pressure sensitive adhesive. Secure with <br />outward clinch expanding staples. <br />2.Insulate fittings,joints,and valves with insulation of like material and thickness as adjoining <br />pipe. Finish with glass cloth and adhesive or PVC fitting covers. <br />K.Inserts and Shields: <br />1.Shields: ​Galvanized steel​,20 gauge,one half the circumference of the insulation,and a <br />minimum of 12 inches long,between pipe hangers or pipe hanger rolls and inserts. <br />2.Insert location: Between support shield and piping and under the finish jacket. <br />3.Insert Configuration: Minimum 6 inches long,of same thickness and contour as adjoining <br />insulation;may be factory fabricated. <br />4.Insert Material: Hydrous calcium silicate insulation or other heavy density insulating material <br />suitable for the planned temperature range. <br />L.Continue insulation through walls,sleeves,pipe hangers,and other pipe penetrations. Finish at <br />supports,protrusions,and interruptions. <br />M.Pipe Exposed in Mechanical Equipment Rooms or Finished Spaces: Finish with PVC jacket color <br />coded to piping system.Refer to 23 05 53 for colors. <br />N.Exterior Applications: Provide vapor barrier jacket. Insulate fittings,joints,and valves with <br />insulation of like material and thickness as adjoining pipe,and finish with glass mesh reinforced <br />vapor barrier cement. A final finish shall consist of 30 lb.felt jacket sealed with hot asphalt mastic <br />and wrapped with 0.016 inch aluminum rolled jacket.Cover with ​aluminum​jacket with aluminum <br />bands 12 inches on center and at each butt joint located on bottom side of horizontal piping. <br />Fittings shall be covered with two piece factory fabricated "ELL-JACS." <br />O.All exposed piping surfaces,insulation,supports,etc.,shall be painted with two coats of oil base <br />paint.Color shall be selected by the Owner. <br />DocuSign Envelope ID: 94E7997D-4F29-42F6-A9B4-0A160438D2A6
