SECTION 316613 – HELICAL PIERS <br />Orange County Waste and Recycling For Proposal – Not for Construction <br />Metal and White Goods Retaining Wall Repair 31 66 13 - 2 <br />DAA PN R00592-204ST2 November 2020 <br />PART 2 - PRODUCTS <br />2.1 HELICAL PIERS <br />A.Pier Selection shall provide the performance specified. <br />B.Helical lead sections and extensions shall be manufactured by A.B. Chance <br />Company or approved equal. <br />C.All units shall conform to the following: <br />1.Shaft Material: 2.875-inch O.D. steel pipe with minimum ultimate torque <br />capacity of 5,500 ft-pounds and ultimate tensile strength of 49,500 <br />pounds. <br />2.Helices: High strength low-alloy steel formed on matching metal dies to <br />true helical shape. <br />3.Bolts: ASTM A320 Grade L-7 or approved equal. <br />4.Couplings: Formed as integral part of extension material. <br />5.Brackets and Steel Plates: ASTM A36 <br />6.Welding: All welds to be in accordance with latest edition of AWS D1.1. <br />All welders shall be AWS certified. <br />7.Finish: All material shall be hot-dip galvanized in accordance with ASTM <br />A 153. <br />D.Installation equipment shall: <br />1.include a rotary torque motor with forward and reverse capabilities. Motor <br />shall be either electrically or hydraulically powered. <br />2.be capable of developing the minimum torque required by the helical piers <br />on the project. <br />3.be capable of positioning the helical pier at the proper installation angle. <br />E.Installation Tooling (Adapters) shall <br />1.safely connect the installation equipment to the helical piers and exten- <br />sions. <br />2.have a torque rating at least equal to the maximum torque rating of the <br />helical piers specified. <br />3.Be securely connected to the helical pier during installation to prevent ac- <br />cidental separation. <br />F.Torque Monitoring Devices <br />1.Torque applied by installation equipment shall be monitored throughout <br />the installation process. <br />2.Torque monitoring devices shall be either part of the installation equip- <br />ment or an independent device in-line with the installing unit.
