SECTION 316613 – HELICAL PIERS <br />Orange County Waste and Recycling For Proposal – Not for Construction <br />Metal and White Goods Retaining Wall Repair 31 66 13 - 1 <br />DAA PN R00592-204ST2 November 2020 <br />PART 1 - GENERAL <br />1.1 SUMMARY <br />A.General <br />1.Helical Steel Piers shall be installed by an authorized A.B. Chance dealer, <br />or approved equal. The Dealer shall have satisfied the certification re- <br />quirements related to the technical aspects of the product and the appro- <br />priate installation techniques. <br />2.All work described herein shall be performed in accordance with all appli- <br />cable safety codes. <br />3.The Dealer shall employ a skilled, experienced work force familiar with the <br />requirements and methods necessary for proper performance of the work. <br />4.The Dealer shall visit the site and become familiar with permissible access <br />and egress paths to the work, headroom requirements, working space and <br />specific owner requirements. <br />B.Pier Location and Performance Requirements <br />1.Helical piers shall be installed as shown on the project plans. <br />2.Spacing of piers shall be as shown on the drawings, with a location toler- <br />ance of 6” in any direction. <br />3.Size and number of helices shall be determined by the Dealer in order to <br />provide the load capacity indicated. <br />a.For tie backs: 5,500-pound minimum safe working load per pier. <br />4.Minimum depth or length of piers: <br />a.For tie backs: 15 ft. unless installation torque indicates required <br />safe working load is achieved at a shorter length. <br />5.Minimum final installation torque shall be that corresponding to the indi- <br />cated load capacity required for each pier. <br />1.2 SUBMITTALS <br />A.Engineering calculations for helical pier capacity, signed and sealed by a <br />professional engineer registered in the state of North Carolina.
