Every fifth sample tested with ASTM D2922 shall be verified by ASTM D1556, Sand <br />Cone or ASTM D2937, Drive Cylinder). <br /> <br />b. Every fifth sample tested with ASTM D3017 shall be verified with ASTM D2216, <br />Laboratory Determination of Water Content of Soil, Rock, and Soil-Aggregate Mixtures. <br /> <br />c. Test locations shall be identified by the Contractor by horizontal and vertical control and <br />presented on drawing or sketch indicating dimensions. <br /> <br />d. If a test fails to meet the required compaction level or moisture content, then the area <br />represented by that test shall be reworked and retested at the Contractor's expense. <br />Corrective measures shall be documented in the Quality Control and Quality Assurance <br />reports. <br /> <br />e. The Contractor shall plug test locations with a 50% cap soil, 50% bentonite mixture <br />compacted in 2" lifts to control leakage. <br />3. Quality Assurance Observations <br /> <br />a. Soil Foundation <br /> <br />The QAO shall include verification that an appropriate subgrade is established for subsequent <br />layer placement. This may include the placement and compaction of controlled fill (Section <br />02200). The verification shall include the following: <br /> <br /> 1) Observations of soil and rock surfaces for adequate filling of rock joints, clay <br />fractures, or depressions, and removal and filling of sand seams. Shall <br />document in written form and photographs the condition of the subgrade prior <br />to placement of subsequent layers. <br /> <br /> 2) Measurements of the depth and slope of the excavation or fill to verify that it <br />meets design requirements.
