The Contractor shall plug test locations with a 50% cap soil, 50% bentonite mixture <br />compacted in 2" lifts to control leakage. <br /> <br />In areas where existing soils are excavated to proposed grades, existing soils shall be field tested, <br />assuming a 2 foot thickness in calculating required number of tests, by obtaining a representative, <br />composite sample of the subgrade soils. Soils shall be tested at the following rates: <br /> <br />Test ASTM Designation or <br />Other Test Method Frequency <br />Classification D2487 1 per 10,000 cy <br />Atterberg Limits D4318 1 per 10,000 cy <br />Hydraulic Conductivity D5084 1 per 10,000 cy <br />Shear Strength D3080 1 per 10,000 cy <br />Moisture-Density Relationship D698 or D1557 1 per acre <br />Base Soil Layer Thickness Observation, Field <br />Measurement <br />50 ft x 50 ft grid <br />Notes: <br />a. The landfill subgrade shall consist of a minimum of two feet of SC, SM, ML, CL, MH, <br />or CH or as specified in the approved construction plan. <br /> <br />b. The landfill subgrade shall be inspected by a qualified geologist or engineer once <br />excavation has been complete. <br /> <br />c. The NCDEQ Solid Waste Section’s hydrogeologist shall be contacted a minimum of 24 <br />hours prior to landfill subgrade inspection. <br /> <br />d.
