Laboratory Testing - Soils <br /> <br />Provide personnel, materials, and equipment to determine field and laboratory density and <br />permeability of soil materials. <br /> <br />The following tests and minimum testing frequencies are required to be performed on soils being used <br />for construction. Material shall be sampled from the site or taken from stockpiles in an accepted and <br />representative manner. <br /> <br />a. Moisture-Density Relationships shall be performed in accordance with ASTM D698 <br />(standard Proctor) or ASTM D1557 (modified Proctor) as specified. <br /> <br />b. Soil Classification tests shall include a sieve analysis (ASTM D6913 and D7928), a <br />natural moisture content (ASTM D2216), hydraulic conductivity (ASTM 5084) and <br />an Atterberg Limit determination (ASTM D4318). Soil classifications shall be <br />performed in conjunction with a moisture-density relationship and whenever a <br />change in material occurs. <br /> <br />c. The Contractor can, at his own discretion, perform additional ASTM Proctor Tests, <br />with varying efforts, in order to establish a larger acceptable moisture-density <br />region. The Modified Proctor is recommended. The additional tests shall be <br />performed at a minimum of once per 5,000 cubic yards delivered. <br /> <br />d.
