A soil sample analysis report shall be submitted to the Engineer prior to seeding <br />operations. Lime, fertilizer requirements, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, <br />magnesium and pH levels shall be tested for each sample and amendment <br />recommendations provided in the soil analysis report. <br /> <br /> <br />Part 2 Products <br /> <br />2.01. Temporary Seeding Mixture <br /> <br />Temporary seed mixture shall be in accordance with the latest edition of the North Carolina <br />Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual. The actual seed used will vary <br />with the seasons, but shall be certified to be high in percent germination and a variety adapted <br />to the locality. <br /> <br />2.02. Permanent Seeding Mixture <br /> <br />A. Permanent seed mixture shall be in accordance with Table 6.11k of of the North <br />Carolina Erosion and Sediment Control Planning and Design Manual. <br /> <br />B. The COUNTY reserves the right to revise the seed mixture. <br /> <br />C. Seeds shall be certified high in percent germination and a variety adapted to North <br />Carolina shall be used. Seed shall be of the latest season’s crop with a minimum of <br />80% germination rate. Mix seed on site or in the presence of the QAO. Weed seeds <br />and inert matter shall not exceed 0.25% (one fourth of one percent) of total seed <br />content. Seed should be free of noxious weeds. <br /> <br />2.03. Topsoil or Amended Soil <br /> <br />Topsoil shall be capable of promoting and sustaining vegetative growth. The topsoil shall be <br />either approved off-site topsoil or soil from an on-site stockpile or off-site source mixed with <br />other suitable organic amendment. The soil or soil mixture shall be free of debris, large roots, <br />stumps, or frozen material. The topsoil shall have a pH between 5 and 7.6, contain at least 2 <br />percent organic matter, and have a maximum particle size of two (2) inches. <br /> <br />2.04. Mulch <br /> <br />A. Mulch shall be free of noxious weeds, molds, or other deleterious material. <br />Mulch/straw should be cured and mulched from the stalks of oats, wheat, barley, or <br />rice. Furnish in air-dry condition. Do not use rye straw. Other materials may be <br />used with prior written approval by the CQA Engineer.
