Orange County Eubanks Road C&D Landfill <br />Permit Technical Specifications <br />Revised March 15, 2021 <br />Section 02221 - 4 <br /> <br /> <br />3.11. Backfilling Trenches <br /> <br />A. General <br /> <br /> Trenches shall be backfilled immediately after the pipes and appurtenances are laid <br />therein. <br /> <br />B. Initial Backfill <br /> <br /> Initial backfill shall begin at the top of the bedding and shall be placed in six inch <br />layers up to a level at least one foot above the crown of the pipe. Initial backfill <br />shall be compacted to a minimum 95 percent of theoretical maximum density as <br />determined by ASTM D698. No lumps greater than two inches in diameter shall <br />be allowed in initial backfill material. Backfill under roadways shall be approved <br />granular materials. <br /> <br />C. Final Backfill <br /> <br />Backfill for trenches not subjected to vehicular traffic shall be placed in layers no <br />greater than one foot thick and compacted to at least 95 percent maximum density <br />as determined by ASTM D 698. <br /> <br />D. Moisture Content <br /> <br /> Backfill soil shall be compacted at a moisture content within a range of the optimum <br />moisture content which allows for the required compaction. As required, backfill <br />soil shall be dried by aerating with a scarifier, disc harrow, blade or other equipment <br />or by such other means as may be necessary. As required, fill and backfill soil shall <br />be wetted by the use of water trucks or sprinklers. Dried or wetted fill or backfill <br />soil shall be thoroughly mixed to provide a material of uniform moisture content. <br /> <br />3.12. Restoration <br /> <br />A. General <br /> <br /> Physical improvements disturbed by the work shall be restored to conditions equal <br />to or better than those existing prior to the work. Repair of damages to structures <br />and utilities shall be the responsibility of the CONTRACTOR. <br /> <br />B. Drainage Structures <br /> <br /> Ditches, culverts, and other drainage structures which are damaged shall be restored <br />promptly.
